Another weekend is gone forever…how do they go by so fast? This roundup talks about search engines, social media for B2B lead gen, social media marketing, the importance of a social media strategy, and augmented reality. How do you keep up on all that is going on in marketing today? I try to read, read and then do some more reading every day. Thus, the Monday, Monday roundup! Enjoy!
They key here for a search engine to find you is using the right keywords.
“Back in the day” (which really means only a few short years ago), B2B and social media didn’t play well together. I remember a client and fellow colleagues saying a big, loud no when it came to utilizing social media in B2B channels. But I never understood that because:
- People who work in B2B are, in fact, people and chances are they are using social media and getting much of their news from social media.
- The value of SEO still exists, whether it’s B2C or B2B.
- It’s still a good way to establish thought leadership and expertise in your industry, whether or not you are B2C or B2B.
One of the reasons I detest business owners handing over the social media marketing initiative to the summer intern is that this usually occurs because they, themselves, don’t really understand social media, what it can do, and how it can be beneficial to their business. Social Media Marketing is far more than understanding “how to Facebook” or “because he/she is a young person, he/she will know how to do it”. Important elements are understanding the brand, planning and strategy among other things.

As mentioned above, your social media marketing initiatives take lots of time and effort. It’s important to plan how this marketing activity can bolster all of your other marketing activities, in order to get the most out of your efforts.
At the American Marketing Association – Phoenix last week, we had a presentation on Virtual and Augmented Reality. It got everyone in the audience thinking, including myself. How can my company or my clients utilize this awesome technology? It was fun to read about Toys R Us and how they are using Augmented Reality. Interestingly, they tied other marketing initiatives, like customer loyalty campaigns, into this. That’s what successful campaigns do!
